With the acknowledged shortage of qualified overhead linesmen in the UK, Overlec has actively recruited staff globally to integrate with the core UK workforce. This has been hailed by principal contracting and national electricity companies alike as an unprecedented success.
This innovative approach enables us to undertake new works without impacting on existing contracts and in turn assists our Clients to do the same.
As an added benefit, weekly travelling time is greatly reduced leading to increased output and cost savings we can pass on to our Clients.
As well as UK based staff, Overlec currently employs linesmen from Slovakia, Poland and The Philippines. Due to increasingly relaxed legislation, the import of skilled operatives from European countries is now relatively straight forward. The issue remains, however, that staff with the necessary experience and the ability to communicate in English must be identified. Through our network of contacts both in Slovakia and Poland we have identified and recruited staff with skill sets that are second to none, a fact demonstrated by their ability to gain authorization levels (including live LV operations) with various UK DNOs.
The employment of workers from outside of Europe is of course a more complex process. Overlec employ Filippino staff not only because of their renowned work ethic but because of their ability to speak English, a result of strong American influence over the years.
Suitable candidates are identified and screened by our affiliated company in Manila prior to being trade tested and interviewed by Overlec staff on location in The Philippines.
As a testament to the success of this process, the pass rate of Filippino linesmen on UK DNO assessment courses currently stands at 100%.
Once work permits have been granted in the UK, our partners in Manila go on to ensure that the accreditation of documents and workers' clearances are obtained in accordance with guidelines from The Philippine Overseas Employment Authority as well as arranging National Bureau of Investigation checking procedures and all general compliance with Filippino legislative requirements in order for visas to be granted.
